I’ve been a fan of My Dying Bride since I first heard Turn Loose the Swans on Triple J’s “Three Hours of Power” show in early 1996. That being said, after their highly praised 1996 album “The Angel and the Dark River” I feel they lost direction somewhat. I did end up grabbing their follow-up album “Like Gods of the Sun” but it didn’t have the same atmospheric ambience, so my interest waned. I checked back in every couple of years when I noticed they had new releases, but nothing ever really grabbed me, and I think my last lapse has been nearly ten years. In any case, I just listened to a song from their upcoming album and was led down a YouTube related videos path to their album “Feel the Misery” from 2015, which blew me away. “A Cold New Curse” is legit.. Looking forward to the new album now, and to giving their preceding album “The Ghost of Orion” a thorough listen.
